Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Appoints Matt Zabel to National Board

TAMPA, Fla, February 4, 2025 – Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA), the nation’s preeminent one-to-one youth mentoring organization, today announced the election of Matt Zabel, executive vice president and chief corporate affairs officer at Target, to its national board.

Zabel oversees the teams that play a critical role in building Target’s reputation with its guests, communities, team, media, elected officials and more.

“Matt’s passion for the power of mentorship has shone through from the moment we met,” said BBBSA Board Chair, Michael Carrel. “We look forward to our continued partnership and work to give back to Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission.”

“Target is proud to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters as part of our commitment to empowering youth and supporting all families,” said Zabel. “As someone who has witnessed and personally experienced the profound impact a mentor can have on your life, I’m honored to join BBBSA’s National Board and look forward to helping create the conditions where youth can dream big and reach their potential.”

While at Target, Zabel has led teams responsible for enterprise risk management, reputation management, law, food safety and employee relations. He has served as General Counsel and led the company’s COVID Task Force. Before joining Target, he served as the chief of staff to a U.S. Senator and held roles within the U.S. Department of Justice.

“As we continue to grow our national board, the passion for mentorship that leaders like Matt Zabel encompass will help us continue to best serve young people across the country,” said BBBSA President and CEO, Artis Stevens. “I look forward to his leadership and partnership in driving our mission forward.”
