While many students spent their summer break at the beach or working to earn tuition money, UCF physics student Jennifer Nolau spent her break analyzing thousands and thousands of digital images beamed to her from an asteroid millions of miles from Earth.
The $800,000 grant is from the Florida Department of Health’s Esther and James King program that funds research on tobacco-related cancers and diseases. Dr. Copik has found a way to amplify the body’s Natural Killer Cells to treat certain types of leukemia.
Knowledge is power and NASA has just invested $19 million into the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico to gain a lot of knowledge about asteroids.
UCF has done it again, bringing in a record $192.1 million in research funding for fiscal year 2019. Twenty-six grants worth more than $1 million each and 155 first-time lead investigators helped UCF grow its research portfolio.
Two UCF Burnett Honors Scholars, Christopher Clifford and Zoe Barbeau, have been awarded 2019 Astronaut Scholarships by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation.
