Understanding Personality Styles using D.I.S.C.
The study of personality types, and the grouping of them into 4 temperaments, has been around since ancient Greece. The DISC method was first introduced in the 1930’s by the same person that invented the lie detector and the Wonder Woman comic book. DISC has maintained its popularity over time because it is easy to remember and because within 90 minutes you can gain enough knowledge to share it, apply it, and benefit from it.
During this session we will review the fundamentals of the 4 basic temperaments, how to easily identify someone’s temperament, and how that understanding can improve communication and teamwork. We will explore how each role on a Scrum Team might be seen and experienced differently based upon a person’s temperament. There will be a brief introduction to blended personality types and environmental differences.
The session will include individual and group exercises.
When you leave the session you will be empowered to make “people, task, faster, slower” a new tool in your Scrum Master tool belt.
Paul was first exposed to the study of temperaments 20 years ago and spent 15 years as part of a personal and professional training program that included further study of DISC leading eventually to becoming a certified DISC Trainer. He spent 3 years doing training alongside a personal coaching practice. Several years ago Paul began his Agile journey becoming a CSM and working for the last 2 years as a Scrum Master at USF.
Paul has a combined 35 years of experience in various roles within IT and continues to do coaching and training when requested.
