…a new ongoing series of LUNIMOUS ARTS MEETUPS 🎉🎉🎉
☆☆ WHAT IS THIS? ☆☆
In this introductory workshop we invite YOU to come and explore LUMINOUS ART, by learning to MAKE YOUR OWN LED circuits that you can program and animate! NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED TO GET STARTED! BLINK IS THE “HELLO WORLD” OF LUMINOUS ART
☆☆ WHAT BE AN LED? ☆☆
LEDs are small luminous DIODES (stands for –> Light Emitting Diode) that are cheap, long-lasting and readily available to be used in ALL types of creative light-art projects. They can be programmed to change color (RGB LED) and for ANIMATION!!! 🤓🤓🤓 …blink 🔆 blink 🔆 blink 🔆
Arduino is an OPEN SOURCE hardware platform for making THINGS interactive. Arduino boards have small microchips that YOU 👈 can program yourself, to CONTROL LIGHTS, and pretty much anything else you can darn-well IMAGINE!!!
☆☆ WHAT TO BRING? ☆☆
YUP, you will need to get some stuff. All easy to find on Adafruit, Sparkfun or Amazon. It’s all pretty cheap; hit us up if you need SOME HELPs!
BOM (bill of materials)
x1…………………Arduino Uno (R3)
x1…………………USB Cable (USB cable type A/B)
x1…………………Laptop computer (to program your LEDs! Duh)
We’ll BRING them LEDs, resistors, jumper wires, breadboards and other DOODADS! We should NOT need to do soldering– BUT we’ll bring a solder gun just IN CASE someone gets all SQUIRRELLY 🐿️🐿️🐿️.
☆☆☆ ON LUMINOUS ART ☆☆☆
Light-based artwork has a loooooonnnnnggggg and expansive HISTORY📼, dating back as far as 200 BCE in Central Asia-China 🌏with SHADOW PUPPET THEATRE. Today, 21st CENTURY artists use ALL TYPES of illumination in their projects, from Projectors and Lasers, to Fiber-optics and small embeddable LEDs. 🔆🔆🔆
FER EXAMPLE – > Yoyoi Kusama uses LEDs to explore the infinite! CHECK OUT 👀, her famous infinity rooms that inspired teamLab’s Borderless exhibit in Tokyo 🎴
San Francisco-based artist, Jim Cambell, uses LEDs as a raw material to explore image + motion, in his low resolution artworks. CHECK em’ OUT 👀

At OK! Transmit, we aim to explore all manor of LUMINOUS ART, starting with LEDs, due to their cheap and ubiquitous nature!
